recently on my birthday I got a computer that was at best in bad
condition. it was an Averatec 6100 laptop, no operating system and no
way of booting fromĀ  CD.

so I got to work onĀ  booting it from usb which was hard because i
had a 64mb bootable drive and a 2.0gb non-bootable drive. I settled on
Linux mint because it was based on ubuntu and far more polished. once i
had this settled i got to work on booting the usb.

what I wound up doing was booting from 64mb drive using “Smart Boot
Manager”. now I am running Linux mint happily. I am also making art
which I will show a couple of my work

A program I have used in the past is Blender 3D. It is the open
source 3D animation program, it rivals the top dogs such as Maya(used
by Pixar and another 80% of the CG industry), 3DS Max, and Xsi.

But what has always made it so appealing is the fact that unlike
major animation programs which are as much as 3GB in size, Blender is only 22mbs.

Sounds great huh, if only. The number one thing that happens is
that you will see a dark grey interface. It primarily uses the keyboard
for commands and it’s documentation is babble. I can’t understand the interface at all.

Well after learning a little about it I tried
some plug-ins; specifically one designed to make realistic planets. It
started rebooting the computer. It kept doing that weather the plug-in was installed or not. I eventually reinstalled the entire program out of frustration. It still doesn’t work correctly but it has stopped
rebooting the computer.

For all the geeks. This is the link I know some people love this program, but I don’t.

P.S. My mom some broke our real blender by accident, don’t know how it just quit on mixing pinto beans.

now we have a new on.

Ok in my first post I covered the fact that I’m mastering Linux.
so as you know I like it.

so now I’ll plunge right into my first real post:

Windows vs Linux.

First I’ll start with Windows.

Pros are:

* Easy to use.

* A lot of software made for it.

* A lot of drivers made for it.

* Has one type of installer.

I use windows for a lot of things. mostly because my dad likes it,
and has made it the sole OS for the entire master computer. In
reality if given the choice; I would use windows for gaming only.
(well maybe modeling because trueSpace is on it.)

It has a lot of software made for it, and is without a doubt the
dominant PC OS, but that doesn’t make it the best. It is easy to put
a virus on it, and it Takes up huge amounts of RAM, with XP using
256mb and Vista using 768mb. it is an amateurs OS and not a good one
at that. the one thing that in of it’s self has going for it is that
it uses one single installer file.

Now on to Linux:

Pros are:

* Very hard to get a virus due to many different types of Linux.

* Has easy to use versions, and ones geared toward true geeks.

* Uses less RAM, KDE 4 uses 356mb of RAM and Xfce 4 uses 128mb of
RAM.

* More customization, from different E-mail and web browsers to
totally different desktop looks. Not to mention all the different
types of installers.

*Wine, the only way to install windows software on Linux works
with about half of all windows software.

Linux is my favorite OS. I have had no end of success getting to
work on the most stubborn computers.

from old hardware to new I have made them all work. I love the
fact that it is free and that I don’t have to Install drivers most
of the time. For some reason though, most people are either afraid of
it or they are just to stubborn and don’t want to try anything new.
but I think people might be a little more receptive of it after the
vista fiasco.

I like it and thats that, So I invite anybody to try it out. I’ll
include some screen shots of the OS’s I’ll link to below.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu’s
flash screen shot. wait a few second to see the next image scroll by.

Xubuntu the Xfce version of
Ubuntu. The big difference between Xubuntu and Ubuntu is that this is
faster but doesn’t come with OpenOffice.org.

PCLinuxOS this is a KDE
desktop so it uses the most ram but it also is the most windows
friendly.

Screen shots are here

Now that we have that cleared right up. I’m a christian teenager who lives in a large Family.

I have several talents, but mostly I repair computers that people say are impossible to repair.

amongst my other specialties are:

* Mastering Linux.

* Playing with little brothers, (even after they’ve buried me.)

* Washing dishes

* Injuring myself in the most bizarre ways. (E.g. Dropping an empty small pot on my knee injuring it.)

* Have a desire to write books. that is truly my passion.

I’m betting now that any sane person has realized that they are bored out of there minds, and have run off to another blog. But that’s ok insane people are fun right?Smiley
